Königssee (Bavaria)

This small Impressionist painting depicts a striking rocky cliff at Königssee, its ruggedly textured surface bathed in soft light. Scattered bushes and trees grow on the cliff, their foliage glowing in autumnal hues-subdued ochre, warm rust-red, and a hint of golden yellow, interspersed with lingering green. In the background, the surrounding mountains rise in a delicate atmospheric perspective. Their forms appear increasingly blurred and bluish-gray the farther they recede into the distance, creating a gentle sense of depth. A light haze seems to lie between the peaks, reinforcing the calm, almost dreamlike mood. The water of the lake in the foreground is slightly rippled, breaking the reflection of the scene into shimmering, restless patches of color.

St. Bartholomä 2. (Königssee / Bavaria)

During the last few beautiful sunny days of autumn 2025, I took a short hiking trip to the Alps near Königssee; in addition to a brief plein air session, I took a few photos for my studio work. This is one of them.

An Impressionist painting depicts the small pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä, viewed from a vantage point on the tranquil Königssee. The water lies still, faintly reflecting the scene in shimmering, broken brushstrokes of cool blues and soft yellow-orange tones. The sky is streaked with fine, almost mist-like clouds. The light appears soft and diffuse, as if filtering through a veil. There are no harsh shadows, only gentle transitions that bathe the entire scene in a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere. In the background rise the Alps, whose contours appear softer due to atmospheric perspective. The nearer mountain slopes are rendered in richer blue and yellow-orange tones, while the more distant peaks fade into delicate, almost transparent hues. They seem to merge with the sky, as if slowly dissolving into the haze. The entire painting is brought to life by the movement of the brushstrokes and the play of light – less an exact reproduction of the landscape than a fleeting impression of a quiet autumn moment at Königssee.

Autumnal forest

The painting depicts an autumnal forest in a tranquil, almost dreamlike atmosphere. Slender, tall tree trunks run vertically through the picture and dominate the composition. They are rendered in cool shades of blue, grey and green and appear slightly blurred, lending the forest depth and a gentle sense of movement. In the foreground, a particularly bright, almost white tree trunk stands out clearly and serves as the central focal point. The forest floor is densely covered with foliage that glows in warm shades of orange, red and brown. This colour contrast between the cool, calm background and the warm ground creates a balanced tension and enhances the autumnal mood. The contours are not sharply defined, but soft and flowing, giving the painting an impressionistic character. Overall, the painting conveys a calm, contemplative mood. It invites the viewer to pause and experience the silence and fleeting beauty of nature in autumn.

St. Bartholomä 1. (Königssee / Bavaria)

During the last few beautiful sunny days of autumn 2025, I took a short hiking trip to the Alps near Königssee; in addition to a brief plein air session, I took a few photos for my studio work. This is one of them.

The painting depicts a tranquil autumn landscape by a clear lake, nestled in an imposing mountain backdrop. At the centre stands a small, whitewashed St. Bart's Church with several reddish-brown onion domes, located directly on the shore of the lake. Its simple architecture contrasts gently with the colourful surroundings and lends the scene a calm, almost spiritual atmosphere. The lake in the foreground reflects the church, the bright autumn trees and the surrounding mountains. The water's surface is calm, with only slight ripples, giving the reflections a soft, impressionistic effect. The colour palette of the water ranges from deep blue to turquoise with golden and green reflections. In the background, mighty, rocky mountains rise in cool shades of blue and grey. They form a stark contrast to the warm yellows, oranges and golds of the autumnal trees along the shore. The sky is clear and bright blue, further emphasising the peaceful mood of the painting. Overall, the painting conveys a harmonious connection between nature and architecture. The soft brushstrokes and the play of light and colour create a calm, almost timeless mood that invites you to linger and pause.

Forest in the evening

The painting depicts an abstract forest landscape characterised by vertical, softly blurred lines. Slender tree trunks stretch across almost the entire height of the picture, conveying an impression of depth and movement, as if the forest were blurring in the light. The colour palette consists mainly of warm yellow, ochre and orange tones in the lower part of the picture, reminiscent of autumn leaves or forest floor illuminated by evening light. Towards the top, these warm colours transition into muted green and yellow tones, suggesting a soft light source in the background. The shapes are deliberately kept blurred, giving the picture an atmospheric, almost dreamlike effect. Instead of realistic details, the mood is in the foreground: tranquillity, warmth and a quiet melancholy. The vertical structure of the trees contrasts with the soft application of paint, creating a harmonious balance between order and dissolution. Overall, the painting conveys a poetic impression of a forest in warm light, possibly in the early morning or late evening hours.

Birch forest

The impressionist painting depicts a light-flooded birch forest, predominantly rendered in shades of green and yellow. Slender birch trunks run vertically through the composition, structuring the pictorial space without imposing a strict order. Instead, a lively interplay of light, colour and movement emerges. The sun's rays seem to fall through the loose canopy and literally vibrate on the birch leaves.
Even the tree bark is not pure white, but refracts in a delicate interplay of white, yellow, purple and blue tones. These cool and warm colours overlap and give the trunks a three-dimensional effect without losing their lightness. Overall, the painting conveys the impression of a warm, sunny moment in the forest, captured as a fleeting perception, characterised by light, colour and movement.

Forest in the morning

The landscape depicts a forest in the early hours of the morning. The representation is deliberately simplified and dispenses with detailed elaborations. The trees are vertically distorted, which makes their shapes appear elongated and creates a rhythmic, almost abstract structure. The color palette ranges from light to dark shades of green and reflects the depth of the forest and the subdued morning light. The tree trunks are predominantly brownish, interspersed with bluish nuances, which gives the picture a cool, calm atmosphere. Overall, the work conveys a quiet, meditative mood and the impression of a forest awakening.
